Embarking on a Journey of Discovery

Circa 2013 marked a pivotal chapter in my career. I stepped into a newly-minted, undefined role within our engineering team, tasked with bridging the gap between the Support organization's requests and our engineering support capabilities. It was a role filled with promise, but as I navigated this uncharted territory, I found myself yearning for a mentor—a guiding hand that could have steered me clear of the pitfalls that lay ahead.

 

Embracing the Challenges

In retrospect, I can't help but wish for a trusted advisor or a seasoned expert sitting beside me, providing the insights I so desperately needed. The absence of such support meant learning through trial and error, where mistakes were not just learning opportunities, but costly lessons that led to increased engineering involvement, escalated costs for the team, and, admittedly, an undue amount of frustration and stress for myself. I vividly recall the sense of dread with each new escalation, the weight of responsibility bearing down as I endeavored to manage and mitigate the issues at hand.

Turning Adversity into Experience

Yet, it was through these very challenges that I unearthed the most valuable lessons—lessons in communication, in forging relationships, and in the often-overlooked realm of self-care. With each crisis, my expertise grew, and my approach evolved. I became adept at handling crises, not just competently, but with a finesse that could only come from hard-earned experience.

Sharing the Knowledge

As I mastered the art of crisis management, it became clear that my journey had equipped me with a wealth of best practices—knowledge that was too valuable not to share. I took it upon myself to mentor my team members, easing their transition into escalation leadership roles within our engineering team. It was through this process of teaching and empowering others that the seeds for what would become our Crisis Leadership Coaching were sown.
